1960 Porsche 356 B Super 90 Roadster for sale
The 356 Roadster was conceived as the successor of the Speedster. The main differences with the more common, less rare, Cabriolet 356 B variant were the removable windshield frame, the Speedster-like minimalist dashboard, the lighter and less bulky soft-top frame, the Roadster offered a purer, sport-oriented character than the contemporary Cabriolet. Produced between 1959 and 1961 and with a total run of 2.653 examples, the Roadster is revered as one of the most interesting 356 models, specially in its “Super 90” variant.
The “Super 90” designation marked the introduction of Porsche’s most advanced pushrod engine of the period. Equipped with revised intake manifolds, larger Solex 40 PII-4 carburetors, Carrera-type air filters, 9.0:1 pistons, and a strengthened crankshaft with 55 mm main bearings, it offered a notable increase in both power and reliability. Further enhanced by the adoption of the robust Haussermann clutch, the Super 90 delivered a spirited performance that set it apart from other 356 variants.
About chassis #88627
This rare Super 90 Roadster was ordered new in Ivory over Black. Factory completed in October 14th 1960, it was delivered new through Hoffman Motors Corp. in New York.
It remained in the USA until 2014, when it was acquired in California by a Spanish based collector and enthusiast, who imported it and commissioned a complete restoration, that finished in 2017.
#88627 is presented for sale in its original factory specification, retaining its matching numbers engine 801462 and gearbox 40582 and correct Solex 40 PII-4 carburetors.
It was fitted with a wood rimmed 356 type steering wheel, the original steering wheel can be delivered with the car.
